John Zimmermann is a couturier in his own name for lucky brides to be. John’s dresses are individual, made to measure, and they all have an admirable attention to detail.
With a background in textiles, John trained in knitting and took a side step into couture when learning from the glamorous Patrick Steel, New Zealand’s premier Couturier of the 1980s and 1990s. A career highlight for John was working alongside Steel to create a wardrobe for a Joan Collins film.
John opened his Bridal Couture showroom in 2000 and has been making New Zealand’s finest custom gowns ever since. He prides himself on striving for elegance, opulence and creating exquisite detail, whilst creating a tasteful contemporary silhouette.
The sophisticated forms and intricate, beautiful features of John’s gowns are certainly something to behold. His work has a glamorous flavour and always flatters the wearer’s figure.
John is inspired by 30s design and 50s couture but always with a contemporary essence. He knows that bridalwear is as much a feature of fashion as other apparel and has seen bridal trends change yearly throughout his career.
At the end of the day, John’s work is all about making not only the brides but also the whole wedding group happy. A successful dress for John is not one that makes the guests say ‘what a beautiful dress’, but one that makes them say ‘what a beautiful bride ’.
